LEM® Gaskets take Payen® and Goetze® Innovations to next level of Performance and Value

With each new generation of engine technology comes a new set of sealing challenges for the technician and Re-builder. Premium moulded-rubber gaskets from Federal-Mogul’s Payen® and Goetze® brands bring solutions to many of these difficult repair issues.

Yet, in spite of the success of moulded-rubber technology, Payen and Goetze continue to explore creative new solutions to many of today’s sealing challenges as well as problems that undoubtedly will surface on next-generation engine platforms.

LEM® – or Liquid Elastomer Moulded® – gasket technology is one of Federal-Mogul’s most important latest breakthroughs. Initially developed for an OE customer, LEM gaskets feature a high-strength metallic carrier encapsulated in a very thin layer of silicone rubber. Because this rubber material is processed in a liquid state, Payen and Goetze gasket engineers can incorporate a wide range of special features – including precisely shaped and positioned sealing beads – into the gasket face.

“LEM technology represents an important new solution that can be applied to difficult sealing challenges at every level of the industry, from the OE manufacturing facility to virtually any aftermarket repair or engine rebuilding business,” said Alexis Goslin,
Federal-Mogul Product Manager, Sealing, Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Easy to FIT and SERVICE
More than 20 vehicle OEM’s now use LEM technology. Moreover, LEM gaskets also have proven to be a valuable timesaving and problem-solving tool for Aftermarket customers. As one example, these new gaskets are a far superior solution for engine applications originally sealed with a silicone compound. Rather than try to re-create a liquid silicone bead for a front cover, cam cover or oil pan, for example, the technician or re-builder can use a Payen or Goetze LEM gasket with specially engineered sealing beads that block all potential leak paths. The rubber-coated LEM construction also provides effective sealing against worn flanges or other rough repair surfaces that commonly lead to repeat leaks.

Payen and Goetze LEM gaskets are easy to recognize through their red coloration and specially labelled packaging.
