Champion® Cabin Filters Offer Perfect Solution for a Growing Market
Few aftermarket product categories can match the “explosive” growth of cabin filters, with sales rising some 40% since 2006. This growth is fueled in part by increased consumer awareness of the importance of these sophisticated filtration products.
Not surprisingly, Federal-Mogul’s Champion® brand is on the vanguard of aftermarket cabin filter technology, already having introduced an extensive product range covering more than 7,000 applications.
“We now offer approximately 95% coverage of all vehicles equipped with air conditioning, making the Champion program the most comprehensive in the European aftermarket,” said Bert De Haes, Federal-Mogul product manager, Belts & Filters, Europe, Middle East and Africa.
Cabin filters play an important role in maintaining the performance of a vehicle’s air conditioning system as well as protecting the health of passengers. In an age when some 85% of new vehicles are equipped with air conditioning, drivers can be isolated in the cabin with an array of potentially dangerous air contaminants – pollen, bacteria, dust, exhaust particles, etc. Indeed, without cabin filters, the air inside the vehicle could be up to eight times as polluted as the air outside. Luckily, cabin filters trap up to 90% of these pollutants. To maintain this performance, these filters should be replaced at least every 12 months.
Champion cabin filters match original equipment technologies for each covered application, including standard and activated-carbon designs. The Champion range now also includes an important new technology, the “micro-filter,” which is now integrated into the fresh-air intake by some vehicle manufacturers. These Champion units feature a triple filtration system (mechanical/electrostatic/ activated carbon) that removes even the smallest contaminant particles.
To further drive the growth of distributors’ cabin filter businesses, Federal-Mogul soon will introduce a technician-focused manual that identifies filter locations and installation instructions for all covered applications.
