Gas-Powered Engines Thrive with Champion^® Iridium Spark Plugs

LPG, in particular, is a more challenging fuel for efficient combustion, as it is harder to ignite under most conditions. In addition, LPG can more quickly erode spark plug electrodes, resulting in unwanted performance issues and shorter overall plug life.

The answer to these challenges is to rely on Champion^® Iridium spark plugs from Federal-Mogul, which are available for a comprehensive range of LPG and E85 engines. Because iridium is highly resistant to erosion, this precious metal is ideally suited to the more aggressive firing characteristics of these applications.

However, it is important to remember that all “iridium” spark plugs are not created equal. Champion pioneered the use of iridium in aviation and industrial plugs. Moreover, Champion Iridium plugs for automotive applications feature an extremely fine-wire iridium center electrode and a platinum V-trimmed ground electrode to ensure the longest life and greatest erosion resistance. Other competitors, in contrast, either do not offer platinum ground electrodes in all their iridium plug designs, which can compromise overall performance and durability or have no iridium plug capability.

Champion Iridium plugs also feature Federal-Mogul’s award-winning SureFire ceramic material and Heat-Active alloy, which help maintain optimal operating temperatures under varying engine loads. This same technology was proven in the popular Champion EON plug range.
