Federal-Mogul Powers 2009 ‘International Engine of the Year’
It has been accurately described as an “engineering showcase,” and the innovative Volkswagen 1.4L TSI Twincharger engine family – recently honoured as 2009 “International Engine of the Year” and “Green Engine of the Year” – can share some of its accolades with Federal-Mogul, which manufactures a broad range of the VW engine’s internal components.
Utilised in the VW Golf, Scirocco, Jetta, Touran, Tiguan and Eos models as well as the Seat Ibiza Cupra, the extraordinarily efficient engine produces up to 178 base horsepower through a combination of petrol direct injection, turbocharging and supercharging. The family of engines of which this award winning model is a part, features such advanced-technology Federal-Mogul components as piston rings, bearings, bushings, thrust washers, timing cover gasket, oil sieve and O-rings. Federal-Mogul also is a leading contributor of OE components for the BMW-PSA 1.6-litre Turbo engine, which received top honours in the competition’s 1.4 to 1.8-litre subcategory.
“We are playing an important role in helping engine manufacturers deliver a new generation of highly innovative and valuable powertrain solutions,” said Mark Whitehead, Federal-Mogul marketing director, engine & sealing products, Europe, Middle East and Africa. “And as these engines enter the aftermarket, our customers can rely on Federal-Mogul to provide best-in-class OE-quality replacement solutions.
Presented by Engine Technology International magazine, the “International Engine of the Year” Awards are judged by a panel of 65 automotive journalists from 32 nations.
